  20.    Here is what I have done.  I have some urgent requests for
  21.    tapes to fill, so I have acted arbitrarily.  Here is a README from
  22.    texmf/latex/dvips
  23.

  25.    These sets of LaTeX input files for the AvantGarde, Bookman, Courier
  26.    Helvetica and Times font families were
  27.    created in mid-June 1994 by Sebastian Rahtz
  28.    using Alan Jeffrey's fontinst program. 
  29.    They are an extract from the font/metrics tree on CTAN
  30.    (see the READMEs under the texmf/fonts/adobe/<typeface> directories 
  31.    for more precise information.)
  32.    
  33.    The LaTeX input files have been transferred into this TEXINPUTS
  34.    path (  texmf/tex/latex/dvips  )
  35.    
  36.    The files in texmf/tex/latex/dvips are
  37.    
  38.     + .fd (font description) files for use with LaTeX2e
  39.     + map files (e.g. ptm.map) which list the raw font names and their
  40.        full PostScript names. These can be added to the psfonts.map file
  41.        of dvips to ensure that the driver recognizes the names as those
  42.        of PostScript fonts. (Remember to remove the word original from the
  43.        top of the file if you do this.)
  44.     + a dvips config file (e.g. config.ptm) which can be used to tell dvips
  45.       about the new fonts if you do not want to change the default psfonts.map
  46.       (usage: dvips -Pptm to tell dvips about the Times fonts)
  47.          NOTE: These have to be in some directory in your TEXCONFIG path.
  48.          You can transfer them into the canonical texmf/dvips directory,
  49.          or you can change the TEXCONFIG environment variable.
  50.    
  51.     + a simple LaTeX2e package (e.g. times.sty) to use the new font family
  52.       as appropriate for its type (as roman, sans or typewriter font)
  53.    
  54.    Do not allow files with names like times.sty in
  55.    texmf/tex/dvips to coexist at the same priority level with these 
  56.    in your TEXINPUTS path.  If such files are needed
  57.    for LaTeX209 capability, move them into the latex209 directory
  58.    texmf/latex209/dvips

  77.    But the effect will still be overridden by the
  78.    install in dvipsk.  How do you feel about hardwiring
  79.    the destination of the latex209 files in dvipsk Makefiles to
  80.    $TEXMFROOT/latex209/dvips/ for now?
